Venice is the most charming city of Italy. Since ages Venice has been a powerful republic, holding control over trade routes in the Adriatic. Since eighteenth century, Venice has been making huge profits from the tourist trade by leasing its fine palazzos to foreign travelers. The watery city, home to gondoliers has been a fabled holiday destination for centuries. Anyone who has visited Venice, has marveled at St Mark's Square and explored the city's maze of canals. There are many international airlines as well as budget airlines running their flights to Venice that is why it is now very easy to access this great city of lions and doges.
Does Venice really need any more introductions? Venice is a land more than a hundred small islands, surrounding the canals. It stretches across numerous small islands the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. The city is in a lagoon, protected by the longer island of Venice Lido. It is said that Venice is on rise though it is sinking because every year high water levels threaten the city's structure and it is feared that this beautiful city will one day disappear beneath the water. The authorities of Venice have put forward many ideas and funds to protect this endangered heritage site, of which the current plans include a giant water-gate. Let’s hope that it works.
