The best architects were called in to design the stately country homes, a far cry from the traditional farmhouse, so splendid that a new name was coined for them – villa.
Between the 17th and 18th century it experienced a golden age which turned it into a privileged holiday resort for rich Venetian.There are indeed many in this area, possibly thanks to the precense of the main architect of this villas, Andrea Palladio, from Padua (1508-1580), who designed them with theclassical and noble forms destined to fascinate the whole world.
We will visit two of them along the river: Villa Widmann built in the 17th century by the Scerimann family, and Villa Pisani, now National Museum, built for the Doge Pisani in the same century.
