The Grand Beauty
After eight long years of restoration and safety work, the stunning hidden gem of Florence, the Vasari Corridor, is finally ready to reopen its doors, allowing visitors to step back in time and walk through the heart of the Renaissance. By joining this exclusive experience, you will be among the first visitors in ages to stroll through the 750 meters of the secret elevated passage designed by Vasari in the 16th century.
The corridor skillfully connects Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti, winding through medieval tower houses, churches, and even crossing over the Ponte Vecchio! What many may not know is that the entrance to the Vasari Corridor is located within the Uffizi Gallery. This is why the first part of the private tour will be dedicated to one of the most beautiful and important art galleries in the world. Founded in 1560 by Cosimo I de' Medici, the Uffizi originally served as the seat of the most important Florentine magistrates before becoming a magnificent gallery in 1769.
Your private guide will lead you through the luminous halls of this remarkable museum, immersing you in a journey through the greatest Italian artists from the Middle Ages to the Late Renaissance. Giotto, Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Leonardo Da Vinci are just some of the absolute geniuses whose masterpieces you will have the privilege to admire, including timeless works like "The Birth of Venus" and "Primavera" by Botticelli, "Doni Tondo" by Michelangelo, and "The Annunciation" by Leonardo Da Vinci.
The Vasari Corridor: A Walk Through History
After a short break on the Uffizi terrace, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Piazza Signoria and Florence from above, the long-awaited moment arrives: the museum staff will open the doors of the Vasari Corridor, revealing one of the best-kept secrets of Florence. Designed in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari on the commission of Cosimo I de' Medici, this aerial passage was intended to allow the Grand Dukes to move safely between their private residence (Palazzo Pitti) and the seat of government (Palazzo Vecchio) without traversing the crowded streets of Florence.
During the walk along the 750-meter-long corridor, you will enjoy exclusive views over Florence, especially the Ponte Vecchio, and you will pass through unique architectural features such as a medieval tower house and even through the Church of Santa Felicita. The construction of the corridor was not without its challenges: the Mannelli family refused to demolish their medieval tower, forcing Vasari to ingeniously build the passage around it.
The tour concludes in the Boboli Gardens, far from the crowds, just as the Medici family would have done centuries ago. You will exit next to the Buontalenti Fountain, a masterpiece of Mannerist sculpture that elegantly combines architecture, painting, and sculpture. From there, your private guide will lead you back to Piazza Signoria, following a scenic route along the Vasari Corridor's external path, allowing you to admire its beauty from the outside and conclude your experience in the most complete and authentic way.
