Fontego (Fondaco) dei Turchi

Natural History Museum of Venice - Fondaco dei Turchi

Since 1923 the Fontego dei Turchi has been the seat of the Natural History Museum of Venice Giancarlo Ligabue - Erected by Giacomo Palmieri in the 13th century, it was first used as a patrician residence, later it was used by the Serenissima as a representative office and then passed to Turkish merchants.

It was only in 1859 that the building became the property of the municipality, which began a complete renovation that brought it back to its original appearance.
The Fontego dei Turchi is today one of the most characteristic buildings overlooking the Grand Canal.
